First of all, it was Francis FICHET, founder of the Domaine who planted the first parcel of Chardonnay on this place called “La Cra” (1ha) to produce a Mâcon-Villages Blanc of good quality in 1969, year of birth of Olivier, is this a premonitory sign?
Pierre-Yves and Olivier moved to the family estate in 1988 and 1990 respectively. Pierre-Yves specializes in the cultivation of vineyards and Olivier in winemaking. They decide to highlight some terroirs even more.
In 1999, after 2 years of trials, Olivier found the corresponding vinification to these magnificent grapes harvested very ripe. In the vineyard it is 100% ploughing, no grassing as on the rest of the estate, because the very chalky soil is quite poor but of great quality!
With a vinification adapted to the richness of the juices obtained, in 100% oak barrels including 25 to 30% new barrels for 12 months, then assembled in stainless steel tank for 6 months before bottling, La Cra represents the locomotive, the pride and the reference of the FICHET domain.
With their experience, they decided in 2012 to try to acquire new plots on this particular climate! With no less than 13 owners to convince, Olivier was able to bring the project to fruition.
The Domaine has 36 hectares of vineyards including 4.5 ha of this magnificent terroir. 1ha from the steepest hillside is reserved for “Grande Craie”!
It is in 2019, 20 years later that this exceptional vintage «Grande Craie» is born, on the first vintage 2017. This year, discover 2018, a vintage full of promise …
The Fichet brothers selected 1 hectare, in full south exposure, to produce this cuvée which will spend 18 months in barrel, then 5 to 6 «ripening» in tank. Aromas concentrated, pure, noble, yellow fruits, spices, candied citrus…
The wine is rich, elegant, long, harmonious, with beautiful toasted notes.
The price is also ambitious, but after all, if sometimes mediocre Côté-d’Or first wines are sold 50 or 60€, why wouldn’t a big Mâcon be worth 38? To meditate on!
